Covid Shrinks the Work Force

When discussions about how employers in the United States are having a hard time filling jobs in the emerging-from-global-pandemic world of COVID occur, the various effects this is having on businesses are noted. Limited production, shipping delays, and limited hours on the retail end all factor into the big picture of economic slowdown. I just heard NBC state that, currently, there are two job openings for every one person.

We also hear about how, at 3.6%, the unemployment rate is extremely low, which indicates that people are, in fact, working. So, what attributes to the gap?

Several situations contribute to the gap between a working population and there being tons of jobs unfilled. Things such as people retiring or going back to school are regularly cited, even career changes that have scores of people leaving the hardest hit-by-COVID industries such as hospitality

What I NEVER hear (and maybe it's being stated, and I just have been missing it so, please, correct me if I am wrong) is that there are so many jobs unfilled, despite the fact that people are working, because...

81,574,159   This is how many COVID cases have been reported in the United States, according to the CDC. Yes, some are mild. However, there are so. many. people. who have long haul symptoms. They can be debilitating. The people who are long haulers might need to work less hours and others, still, can't work out all.

994,511  That is how many people have died from COVID in the United States, according to the CDC. (They cannot work, either.)

I think it is fair to state that another factor for so many jobs remaining unfilled is COVID SHRINKS THE WORK FORCE! Rather than acting like it's all a mystery, why am I not seeing people falling all over themselves to cite because there are people who are either dead, physically unable, or has a loved one for whom they must caretake as a result of COVID as a reason???!!

Millions of people have been subtracted from the pool of workers to take positions in the growing jobs  market as a direct result of COVID. Mystery solved!

Where on this spectrum are you of being hampered by COVID Long Haul or using the current job market situation to your advantage??! Do you have any insights to broaden the understanding of other readers and myself about this topic? Please share!
